While we have state of the art equipment in our custom-built Heart Centre, our team is really what makes us leaders in our field in the Middle East and North Africa. Our highly experienced team of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons are some of the most respected in the region, and the professionalism and experience of the support staff (which includes specialists anaesthethists) are equally impressive.

The result of having such a complete and dedicated team of experts is that we have been able to perform over 300 cardiac surgery procedures since May 2002 and, most importantly, to a standard that is above the level of international benchmarks in almost every area of measurement.

It is unfortunate that the Gulf region shows a high incidence of heart disease. This is a result of commonly sedentary lifestyle, high level of fast food consumption and high instance of smoking and diabetes. The average age for patients presenting with heart disease in the West is 65-70 whereas it is around 55-60 here. Within this environment it is crucial to provide preventative measures to reduce the instance of heart disease, and also to have the expertise and facilities to efficiently treat patients to international standards.

Where once patients were inclined to travel to the West to seek surgery, increasingly they find the expertise that is required right here on their doorstep – at the Welcare Hospital. Not only is the level of service and proficiency of an extremely high standard, but the cost and trauma of flying abroad for surgery mean the number of patients who choose to stay in their country of residence for treatment is steadily increasing.

Besides state of the art cardiac surgery, the cardiothoracic department at Welcare Hospital provides excellent post operative ICU care as well as care in the ward after shifting out from the ICU.
