Transit Dialysis
Welcare Hospital has a well equipped dialysis unit that offers modern and comprehensive care for dialysis patients. Patients on dialysis here are managed with uniform adherence to international standards, specifically the K - DOQI guidelines of the National Kidney Foundation, USA and the UK Renal Association. All dialysis procedures are standardized and referenced to such widely accepted sources. The dialysis unit is also actively involved in meeting international standards of quality assurance and measurement, such as the ISO Certification.

Required Information
We require that you send us your medical details. Specifically, the following will be required:

A detailed medical report from your treating physician, including details of your current medication |

Record of drug or other allergies, if any |

Reports of HbsAg, Hepatitis C antibody titters, and HIV status. These results must have been obtained within the month preceding your visit here. Your dialysis nurse will help you with this. |

Details of your dialysis treatment (i.e., your dialysis prescription). We would also prefer to have log sheets from previous three dialysis sessions, if possible. |
Travel details, including proposed date of travel, and the dates that dialysis will be required here. After all the formalities are complete, we will be able to provide you with exact time slots.
TWe would advise you to have your last session of dialysis there just before you travel.

Head of Nephrology and Transplantation
Dr. Mustafa Ahmed is a Consultant Nephrologist who has trained in the UK for the last 20 years. He graduated from Kings College London and trained in nephrology at the Middlesex institute of nephro-urology, the world renowned renal unit attached to the Kings College Hospital and Guys and St Thomas’s Hospital- one of the largest transplant centers in the UK.
He has varied nephrology interests including a doctorate on ‘nocturnal polyuria’ for which he as won a national award while working with one of the leaders in human clinical pharmacology Sir Patrick Vallance. He is interested in the detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and contributed to the UK National Service framework.
During his time at Guys hospital he conducted major studies on live related/unrelated transplantation, transplantation across blood group barriers and SPK (simultaneous kidney pancreas transplantation). He has conducted the largest study of ‘transplant tourism’ in London and has since lectured on this at both the European Science Foundation and more recently the British Transplant Society (Belfast 2005).
He has set up one of the first renal palliative care clinics for those unfit or unwilling to receive dialysis in the UK. He also runs specialist clinics in renal diabetes, lupus and sickle cell disease and is currently developing newer dialysis modalities such as home haemodialysis and nurse free dialysis programmes (dialysis walk in centers) to take nephrology into the 21 century.
